Demolishing buildings that encroach on public beaches is fine, but if no one picks up the debris, it ends up looking worse than leaving the buildings intact, some Pattaya tourists complained.
Those were the sentiments after Pattaya officials and soldiers smashed encroaching structures on Yim Yom Beach near the Asia Hotel.
Five structures that had stood on the beach for decades were demolished, but the soldiers didn’t see fit to clean up their mess. As a result, the picturesque beach is now littered with wood, concrete and plastic.
What’s the point of removing encroachments if the overall result makes the beach worse, tourists wondered.
