Pattaya has ordered that the Bali Hai Sunset restaurant on Cozy Beach be demolished for encroaching on public land.
Acting Mayor Chanapong Sriviset issued the order Oct. 8 after repeated warnings to property owner Ampan Thanwan that her 100-sq.-meter eatery and 81-sq.-meter balcony were erected on public property.
Land surveyor Kris Cherdsuriya said more than 80% of the restaurant encroached on public land, meaning the entire structure needed to be removed.
Ampan was given 45 days to comply with the takedown order. After that, city hall can demolish the building and bill her.
