A Rayong couple caught on video stealing bananas from a roadside field nearly went to jail for their monkey business.
Security guard Thanapong Janpitak, 38, and Wanida Kaiin, 39, were tracked down by Ban Krum police Nov. 14 after a complaint a week earlier by farmer Bantao Chamnan, 62, that thieves had stolen six bunches of bananas from her field in Charkpong Subdistrict of Klang, District.
Roadside CCTV cameras caught the couple cutting down the bananas with niece Sujira Kaiin, 26, in their parked Mazda 2.
Police said Thanapong confessed that stealing the bananas was his idea as the couple was broke and needed money for food and gasoline. So the couple cut down the big bunches of bananas and sold them locally for 430 baht.
Thanapong apologized to the farmer, who then declined to file charges.
