As Songkran celebrations kicked into high gear, Bangkok Hospital Pattaya joined with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation to aid revelers carried away with partying and water fights.

At an April 11 press conference, BHP Deputy Director Dr. Supakorn Winwan said the hospital’s trauma center would be fully staffed with doctors and nurses specifically trained for emergency medicine. It had prepared for the annual Thai New Year carnage by training staff to handle the rampant car accidents that occur during April each year.

A total of 116 people were killed and 1,760 injured in road accidents in just the first three of seven Songkran days this year.

Sawang Boriboon Vice President Sinchai Wattanasartsathorn said medics were ready to respond to accidents, but was lacking volunteers to assist in the Naklua, North Pattaya, Nongket Yai and Chaiyapruek neighborhoods.
