Belgian groom-to-be dies before wedding

A Belgian man set to leave for Issan to marry his Thai girlfriend died after falling in his Pattaya home.

Jean-Luc Marcel Schmit, 58, was found dead on the third floor of the house on Pratamnak Soi 5. Fiancé Saowanee Siawapee, 25, said she and Schmit’s sister were downstairs when she heard a loud crash and discovered her paramour collapsed on the floor. Dating for eight months, they had planned to leave the next day to get married in Udon Thani.

The Belgian embassy was notified and the body sent to the Forensics Institute to determine the cause of death.
