Demolition of the Boutique Hotel will take yet another three months as workers must slow down and take extra precautions not to drop steel and concrete on adjacent homes and vehicles.

Pattaya Mayor Anan Charoenchasri and city engineers met with contractor Tyranno Co. Oct. 4 following complaints about falling building scrap creating hazards to people and property.

The company does not allow employees to work on levels with no floors, so cranes are being used to dismantle the building. Scrap is now being placed on the seventh floor instead of being taken to the surface. The debris is then moved from the seventh floor to the ground.

There remains concern, however, the large scrap pile could drop through the seventh floor.

Tyranno executives said the extra caution and safety procedures have slowed its operation and the company now needs three more months to complete the demolition.

Soi VC residents complained in early September that debris had smashed onto roofs, damaged businesses and broken several cars and motorbikes. When confronted by angry property owners, workers put on their best “who, me?” look.

Destruction of the Boutique has been ongoing sporadically for most of the year after Pattaya finally forced its rogue owner to comply with multiple demolition orders for illegally adding floors to the hotel.

Tyranno is the second contractor hired for the job and was threatened with having its contract terminated when it missed its first deadline. But on Sept. 12 the Pattaya City Council approved another 2.9 million baht to continue the demolition.
