A northern Thailand hill-tribe boy was captured by police after allegedly breaking into a fruit vendor’s apartment.

The 14-year-old boy from the Akha tribe in Chiang Mai was detained by residents on Jomtien Soi 2 April 25 after sneaking out onto the roof outside the room of 33-year-old Nidtaya Palngdee.

Nidtaya claimed 1,800 baht was stolen from her purse, but the money was not found and she declined to press charges.

Police said the boy denied the theft charges, claiming he had broken into the room to return the key to her motorbike, which he had taken earlier so he could take her bike for a joyride. He said Nittaya saw him, so he simply tossed the key into the room without taking anything.
