Faulty brakes are being blamed for landing a tour bus full of Chinese tourists in the sea in Naklua.

The 34 visitors were wet, but unhurt, after they climbed out of the Sermyong Tour coach that smashed through a parked pickup truck and over 50 meters of sand to land in the water near Naklua Soi 18 June 6.

Rescue workers assisted the Muay Thai boxing tourists in getting ashore before pulling the bus out of the drink.

Driver Chokchai Plangthaisong, 49, said he tried to brake while coming down a steep curve, but the brakes failed. He tried to slow the bus by downshifting, but that also failed. There was nothing he could do as the coach rolled into the ocean.

Police planned to inspect the vehicle to see if it was roadworthy to even start the day and would take action against the tour operator if it was found to be poorly maintained.
