A Jomtien Beach candy vendor was arrested for stealing a German tourist’s handbag.
Decha Subbud, 31, was tackled by beach-goer Sirapob Kanpan, 49, and held until police arrived at Jomtien Soi 1 June 26. He was caught with a purse belonging to Durist Bertchart, 66, that contained 1,040 baht and 20 euros.
Bertchart said she and a friend were sunbathing and that she was keeping an eye on her belongings when Decha came by, snatched the bag and ran. She jumped up and shouted for help and Sirapob, walking on the beach, came to her defense.
Police said Decha, who has an arrest record, confessed, claiming he needed extra money for his mother.
