To look at Chokchai Village 8, you might think no one living there has seen a garbage can before. But the trash that piles up on the streets isn’t from residents.
Security guard Weerayut Paosuwan and Nattaya Inta said residents fill village trash receptacles properly and they’re dutifully picked up by the city regularly. The garbage on both sides of the road behind the village comes from elsewhere.
Residents of Chokchai Village 8 say the trash behind their village comes from outsiders, and are asking them to stop.
Rainwater runoff and floods carry litter discarded carelessly by Pattaya residents into their neighborhood. Some of it originates at nearby construction sites. Some is the remnant of burned furniture or household items.
There once was a sign that warned people not to dump trash outside Chokchai Village. It did no good and long has disappeared. Residents are hoping the litter will one day do the same.
