Chonburi’s 147th buffalo racing festival is underway, with the big race scheduled for Oct. 23.
Deputy Gov. Thammasak Rattanathanya and Provincial Administrative Organization President Wittaya Kunplome announced the events will take place at the field in front of Muang-Chonburi District Office and the field in front of Chonburi Governor House.
The Oct. 18-24 festival, marking the end of Buddhist Lent, will feature a parade, a buffalo costume contest, youth pageant, folk sports, games and a buffalo-breeding competition.
The Oct. 23 races will be broken down into five categories from “super miniature” to “giant” buffalos.
Other attractions include a Buddhist amulet exhibition, a red-whiskered bulbuls conservation contest and the sale of locally made products.
