Chonburi encourages reconciliation between employers, unions

The Chonburi Labor Protection and Welfare Office organized a reconciliation project to support the economy.

Gov. Khomsan Ekachai presided over the Dec. 14 event to bring employees and employers closer at the Bangsaen Heritage Hotel in Muang District.

Labor relations officials said there have been many proposals made regarding annual bonuses and wage increases, which sometimes led to protests. Therefore the office organized the meeting to reinforce reconciliation between employer and employee.

The project emphasized creating understanding by both sides to create love and unity in the workplace to support the economy.

Wichien Sangam, Chonburi labor protection officer, said 500 people participated, representing employees, private and government employers and 124 labor unions.

Col. Wattanapong Mahiphan, of Chonburi’s Internal Security Operations Command, discussed the limitations imposed on demonstrations and rallies imposed by the military government under the Thai Public Assembly Act; exhibitions of organizations under the Labor Ministry, and an exhibition on the organization’s mission, and games.

Khomsan said there have been complaints by staffers regarding annual bonuses and wage adjustments. At the same time, negotiations by unions pressured employers, affecting the image of Chonburi and its employee unions.

Therefore the province held this activity to create reconciliation between employer and employee to provide knowledge about labor laws and reinforce good relations, he said. (CPRD)
