Chonburi marked the 124th anniversary of the Thai Red Cross with a give-and-take of history and blood.

Chonburi Red Cross President Supaporn Thienchai presided over the April 26 ceremony at National Blood Service Center 3 in Muang District.

The chapter hosted exhibits on the Red Cross’ mission and history and accepted blood donations from the public. The mayor of Bangsai Sub-district chipped in, donating salty eggs to those rolling up their sleeves.

The Thai Red Cross Society was founded April 24, 1893 as the Red Unalom Society of Siam with then-Queen Saovabha Phongsri serving as its first president.

The Thai chapter was accepted into the International Red Cross Federation in 1921. HM Queen Sirikit currently serves as president and HRH Princess Sirindhorn its secretary. (CPRD)
