The Chonburi Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department simulated a chemical disaster in Laem Chabang to train workers how to handle the real thing.
The April 5 disaster drill at Laem Chabang City Hall used the scenario of a 200-liter fuel tanker colliding with a chemical truck and crashing into a crowded bus stop and hitting a motorcycle taxi. Chemicals spilled, causing a noxious cloud.
Rescue squads run through a practice drill to be prepared should such an event actually occur.
Officials used the Incident Command System to increase understanding for trainees and give them an understanding of how to deal with situations. The experience should develop the agency’s knowledge base and spread to help improve response to accidents in the future, they said.
