Chonburi’s Natural Resources and Environment Department showed off how old junk can be recycled into handicrafts.
Thanapong Rattanawuthnan of the Forestry Department presided over the May 18 arts-and-crafts contest at Chonburi’s provincial hall. Categories included making household items, costumes and fancy rubbish bins.
The Environmental Quality Promotion Department organized the workshop to encourage residents to reduce, reuse and recycle while making arts and crafts.
The idea was to create awareness about how much of the province’s overflowing rubbish can could be recycled for other purposes.

Thanapong said the crafts competition was created to educate students about recyclable items and give them the opportunity to partake in the arts.
The budget was provided by Environmental Quality Promotion Department, which wants to improve waste management and protect the environment.
While the event was called a contest, there were no single winners, as all were awarded tokens of appreciation.
