Chonburi government officials and area youths are cooperating on a new campaign aimed at cutting the number of unwanted teen pregnancies.
Representatives from the Social Development and Human Security office in Chonburi and the Chonburi Youth Council launched their effort Feb. 9 with a seminar aimed at teens. The mission is to educate and offer advice, encouraging youths to abstain from sex.
Supporting the campaign is DJ Teen, a local radio show personality who is speaking out to the public to raise the awareness of underage pregnancy and how to prevent it.

Local students were invited to the meeting while lecturers from the Youth Council and the ministry office advised them of what problems they will face after engaging underage or unprotected sex.
They were told that having babies at a young age takes a big toll on parents and society, and often leads to illegal abortions and child abandonment.
Students were invited to join promotional activities to spread the lessons they learned to their peers.
