Pattaya’s Chumsai Community helped local motorbike taxis communicate easier with tourists by offering them English lessons.
President Jirawat Plukjai opened the March 5 course in the Central Road community, joined by soldiers from 14th Military Circle who taught six hours of classes through March 7.
More than 100 motorbike taxi drivers participated to learn key phrases and vocabulary they would encounter when dealing with foreign tourists.
Pattaya’s Chumsai Community’s English lessons are being well-received by the motorcycle taxi operators.
Eventually, organizers said, taxi drivers could actually recommend some tourist attractions and interesting activities happening in and around town.
The drivers also were warned against overcharging customers, as more tourists have made complaints about such practices. It is hoped better English skills will decrease such problems.
