Pattaya has a lot of trees, so city workers were out again for the seemingly weekly chore of cutting back branches.

This time about 20 workers pulled into Dongtan Beach Sept. 6 to trim branches to prevent them from breaking and injuring people during rainy season storms. It also prevents them from knocking down power lines.

The tree branches won’t take very long to bloom out again after the cutting, which will change the scenery of the area to make it look more tidy and clean. The branch cutting is organized every year to maintain the area and keep the trees friendly to the beach.

Bamrung Boontaeng, head of the branch-cutting unit, said that the orders to cut the trees were directly from the engineering unit of the Environment Department because Thailand is experiencing the rainy season.

The large cut branches can be used for other purposes such as turning into coal. The team will continue to cut tree branches in the Dongtan Beach area first, and will then move down towards Jomtien Beach and other public areas as well.
