City council, Provincial Waterworks Authority and business leaders met to map out ways to prevent water scarcity in Pattaya neighborhoods.
Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay chaired the Aug. 24 meeting with PWA Manager Araya Ngamwongwan, Dusit Thani Hotel General Manager Chatchawan Supachayanont, city council members and business people at city hall.
Provincial Waterworks Authority Manager Araya Ngamwongwan goes over water usage statistics.
Verawat said the city’s growing population continually presents challenges in providing tap water to everyone. While outright supply shortages are no longer a problem, the actual distribution system remains insufficient to serve every neighborhood without disruption.
Araya reviewed the list of reservoirs the PWA taps to pull water into the city and usage statistics.
Pattaya uses about 5,980 cu. meters of water per hour while the utility can supply more than 6,320 cu. meters per hour. He said one way to boost those figures would be to recycle water per plans laid out by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute.
