PATTAYA, Thailand – In response to a recent incident on October 23, Pattaya city authorities have taken immediate action to address the safety concerns of tourists navigating the city’s roads. The incident involved a foreign tourist who suffered injuries, including a broken nose, after stumbling over a raised road stub. These stubs, originally part of a citywide project launched in 2022 to enhance road safety, were designed as light-reflective dividers to improve visibility, especially during the night-time.
Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai addressed the situation on October 25, highlighting that the raised road dividers were installed to assist in traffic separation, particularly at night. However, the recent incident on Soi Wat Boonkanjanaram, the road leading to Jomtien beach, prompted the city to re-evaluate the effectiveness of these dividers. Authorities have decided to remove three raised stubs and replace them with a pedestrian crossing. This move is aimed at providing tourists with a safer and more convenient means of crossing the road.
