Cold-weather coats are hot sellers this week as Thailand gets its first taste of winter weather.
Second-hand coats were the most-popular buys at the Sutthawat Flea Market Dec. 7, with people lining up to buy warm apparel for themselves and relatives in the North and Northeast.
While foreign tourists are delighting in temperatures ranging from 19-26 degrees, Thais are scrambling for parkas, scarves and hats.
Shopper Uthumporn Kedmeekawe said she can take a day or two of cool air, but 10 days have left her shivering and she needed to stock up on clothing.
Second-hand coats can be found in good condition and are bargain-priced, she said.
Apparel seller Waraporn Uthumpornwattana said jackets can be had for 80-120 baht, some still with retail price tags on them.
She said she’ll keep selling until she runs out of stock, but predicts the weather will warm up again soon.
Until then, she said she also has plenty of beanies to keep noggins warm, too.
