Planning to modernize before Thailand joins the ASEAN Economic Community, the Customs Department met in Pattaya to brainstorm changes to regulations and electronic systems.
Customs Director-General Benja Louichareon led the April 6 hearing at Pattaya’s Zign Hotel.
Benja said the worldwide customs procedures and technologies have changed dramatically over the past 10 years, with countries moving almost entirely to electronic and automated systems.
Government officials meet to discuss how to modernize the Customs Department.
Thailand’s electronic customs equipment was installed in 2001 and has not been modified since, she said. In order to prepare for the AEC in 2015, the agency needs to modernize and is seeking the input of importers and exporters on not only the best way to do that, but what regulatory changes also are needed.
