Reported cases of dengue fever hit a five-year high in January and the Banglamung Health Department is moving to quell the outbreak.

Sahapumi Dethanapirom from the Health Department, told District Chief Chakorn Kanjawattana at a Jan. 28 meeting that 25 cases of dengue were reported between Jan. 1-18, with one fatality.

Sahapumi said the department has produced brochures to prevent the spread of disease-carrying mosquitoes, focusing on “close, change, release, improve, practice and scrub.” District workers also are going out to neighborhoods on Fridays to show residents how to spread abatement and remove or cover standing water.
