The Diana Group, Human Help Network Thailand and Pattaya City Expats Club are helping Thais learn a second language by organizing the 18th English Conversation for a Better Life program.
Banglamung District Chief Sakchai Taengho opened the April 21 event at the Diana Garden Resort with Diana Managing Director Sopin Thappajug, HHN Director Radchada Chomjinda and Richard Smith of the PCEC.
Students, teachers and organizers gather for a large group photo at the beginning of the course.
More than 100 people attended the start of the 48-hour course, which will run over 12 weeks and is free of charge. Twenty native speakers will teach lessons on introductions, alphabet, basic grammar, conversation, tongue twisters, directions, business English and more.
“Thailand is entering the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 so speaking English fluently is very important since we live in Pattaya, which is heavily populated by foreigners,” Sakchai said. “This activity is a benefit for locals to develop their language skills in order for them to increase income for their families. The three most important languages are English, Chinese, and Russian. These must be learned to elevate our working skills.”
