Banglamung’s district chief has resurrected the idea of banning large tour buses from downtown Pattaya, requiring instead they park out of town and bus tourists to the beach in minivans.

Chakorn Kanjawattana said at a July 5 meeting that he believes large coaches are the main cause of Pattaya’s traffic woes. They park where they want, often double-park, and get stuck trying to navigate on to small sois where they should not go, he said.

The district chief said the buses could park at a large lot in the eastern part of town, then transfer their passengers into mini vans or songthaews to travel to the beach or to their hotels.

The idea has been suggested at least twice before in the past several years and each time has gone nowhere.
