Dolphin sightings are being reported across Pattaya as the workers slowly install light posts adorned with the city mascot.

About half of the 129 planned dolphin light poles had been installed as of Feb. 9. Spaced 15 meters apart, the posts stand 8 meters tall upon a crucifix stand, with two lamp-wings and dolphins perched on top.

Construction of the new dolphin light poles throughout the city appears to be falling behind schedule, but at least these along part of Pattaya North Road are done. When the plan was announced in early December, officials said all the poles would be installed between North Pattaya and Pratamnak Hill by the end of January.  Now officials say it won’t be done until July.

No reason was given for the half-year delay for the poles, which Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome says would improve the image of the city.
