During a violence-prevention workshop in Pattaya, parents, social workers and public officials learned details of two laws aimed at protecting women and children.
Mayor Anan Charoenchasri opened the Feb. 28 seminar, the second organized by city hall, on prevention of violence to children and women.
Sutham Pechonket, deputy permanent secretary, said domestic violence has developed into a major issue related to human rights that society must work together to solve.
Thailand in 2010 passed the Domestic Violence Act and, in 2013, the Child Protection Act, which both strive to provide protection to victims and offer relief.
Participants in the seminar, which included 80 children, were split into two groups where they were advised of the tenets of the laws and encouraged to collaborate on ways to monitor and prevent domestic violence.
