A repeat drug offender was arrested for stealing the property of two tourists who peeled off their clothes to go swimming on Pattaya Beach late at night.
Neng Somsoda, 39, was taken into custody at his Naklua Soi 27 apartment Dec. 12.
Police said he confessed to taking a mobile phone and 1,800 baht from the pockets of clothing left on the beach behind the Dusit Thani Hotel by a computer programmer and university student. After pilfering the pockets, he threw the clothing about 50 meters from where he found it.
Neng, arrested six times for drug use, said he used the money to buy more narcotics.
Pattaya police chief Pol. Col. Apichai Krobpetch blamed the tourists for being careless and warned all people they should leave their belongings with a minder, only swim in well-lit areas near lifeguards, and only in areas marked for swimming.
