Livestock officials suspect duck deaths in Sriracha were caused by food poisoning, not bird flu.

Livestock officials are investigating the mysterious death of all of a Sriracha farmer’s 24 ducks.

Poj Sichanuklit of the Chonburi Livestock Department, his Sriracha office counterpart Wanchana Thongyen and Lertchai Jinpitaksakul, director of the Eastern Veterinary Research and Development Center, visited the Nongkham Sub-district home of Jamlong Sasrong April 26.

After an initial inspection, the animal experts said they did not believe the duck deaths were caused by bird flu, but, instead, by food poisoning.

Jamlong said that instead of bird seed or animal feed, he fed his ducks leftover food donated by local restaurants and mixed that with rice.

Livestock officials suspect the leftovers had spoiled and the farmer poisoned his entire flock with the rotten people food.
