Residents of Khao Mai Kaew protested against the long drawn-out time it’s taking to construct the road through their neighborhood, saying they have been eating dirt and dust for far too long.

About 30 Khao Mai Kaew residents protested over four years of road construction that shows no end in sight. Village chief Kanadej Piewnoi led the residents to file an official complaint letter with Mayor Jamnien Keeteepakul Oct. 31.

The letter complained that the concrete bypass road being built through the Ban Phu Sai Community has been going on for four years, leaving residents without streetlights and plagued by dust and detours. They said the project has been detrimental to residents’ health and businesses and that holes, flooding and construction zones are a traffic hazard.

The also claimed that some homeowners have not been properly compensated for expropriate land. Resident Ploenjit Srisawak, 64, said they want answers to all their questions and their concerns resolved. As a former teacher, she’s concerned about dangers to students once classes resume.
