Elderly, disabled given free checkups

Disabled and disadvantaged Pattaya residents were given free checkups in a program organized by the city Health Promotion Department.

City Councilman Rattanachai Sutidechanai opened the July 29 project with department chief Punnapha Thongphan. He said chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure are increasingly becoming risks for Thais. But such diseases can be prevented with exercise and proper diet, he said.

Health checks are an important part of staying healthy, officials said. As such, Pattaya launched a three-day program targeting 2,300 disabled, monks and novices for free checkups.

The first group saw 400 disabled receive checkups July 29. Later that day, 170 students at Redemptorist School for the Blind were given theirs.
