Banglamung officials traded their suits for cowboy hats to rustle up a wild buffalo that broke out of its pen at the Pattaya Elephant Village.

Banglamung officials were able to corner, and eventually capture a large bull water buffalo before it could do any damage to people or property in the neighborhood.
Banglamung officials were able to corner, and eventually capture a large bull water buffalo before it could do any damage to people or property in the neighborhood.

District Chief Chakorn Kanjawattana and officials from the Wild Animals Breeding Station and Animal Conservation Center of Chonburi led the team that captured the bull on Soi Huay Yai 15 Aug. 24.

The buffalo – about 15 years old, standing 2 meters tall and weighing in excess of a ton – was standing calmly in a field and had not caused any damage or injuries, but officials wanted to capture it before it did.

The officers guided the buffalo into an abandoned home surrounded by a fence until it could be harnessed.

Owner Jarat Somsap, head of the elephant village, claimed the animal and said it had broken free when fences were damaged by a rainstorm. No charges were filed this time, but that would not be the case if it happened again, Chakorn warned.
