Police were called March 13 to a no-name som tam shop on Soi Paniadchang 8 March 13 after restaurateur Muyin Srimanta, 40, discovered a refrigerant tank wrapped in electrical wire placed in the seating area of her closed establishment.
The 13.6-kilogram tank, painted black and red, was wrapped in wires that attached to a soda can-sized metal box. It had all the signs of being a large explosive.
This realistic looked fake I.E.D. caused quite a scare in central Pattaya restaurant, but luckily resulted in no injuries.
Police surrounded the cylinder with tires before proceeding to check the device, determining it had no detonator or working electronics and was not a threat.
Muyin speculated the device could have been left by one of her regular customers, who often got drunk there. She had not opened the restaurant as usual last night, depriving her regulars of a drinking hole. The man she suspected was an air conditioning technician and could have constructed the dummy device, she told police.
