Chonburi authorities raided four Pattaya pet shops for allegedly selling counterfeit drugs and pet-care products.
Veterinarians Teerayuth Suthijak and Surachet Ungwijarnbanya of the Chonburi Livestock Office led police to Star Dog, Dog Enjoy, Super Dog and Dog Station, all on Third Road, June 9 where they seized counterfeit antibiotics, shampoo and tick and flea repellents.
None of the drugs were registered and the vets said many were knockoffs that harmed, not helped, animals.
Teerayuth said about 10 million baht in unregistered drugs are sold in Thailand to treat sick animals. They not only cause health ailments in pets, but also make the animals more resistant to antibiotics and other treatments.
