Two female underground lottery dealers were beaten by a gang of eight men for failing to pay suppliers of their tickets.

Prathum Jeerawatsuthorn, 42, and Montha Jeerawatsuthorn, 45, complained to police following the after-midnight June 4 attack at their restaurant at Soi Paniedchang 11 and Soi Yume in Naklua. Prathum was hit in the face while Montha was punched and kicked after falling.

Prathum said the assault occurred after a supplier she identified only as “Vichai” and a group of thugs began smashing the restaurant in retaliation for her missing payments. She told police she recently had 21,000 baht in lottery revenues stolen and had promised to repay Vichai 500 baht per day.

However, she said, business at the restaurant had been slow. While she had been able to repay 8,000 baht, she recently dropped the daily payment to 400 baht, which angered the underground dealer, suspected to be part of an organized-crime ring.

The two sisters from Kamphaengphet tried to stop the gang from damaging the restaurant, only to have the assailants turn on them.

Police are confident they can identify and arrest the suspects.
