Friends speculate that a Phitsanulok man shot on Sukhumvit Highway by a gang of young motorcyclists late last month was gunned down because of his full body of tattoos.

Somchai Tuangpet, 33, barely survived the April 28 shooting near Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

Ekarat Keawali, a friend of the injured food vendor, said they were returning home to Naklua from a day at Pattaya Beach when several men and a woman in their early 20s riding motorbikes shouted for them to stop.

A moment later, Ekarat said, one pulled a gun and shot three times, hitting Somchai in the chest.

Both men told police the shooting was random, as they didn’t have any disputes with anyone. Ekarat postulated the young shooters were either jealous, resentful or fearful of Somchai as he is covered in body ink.
