Ford employee’s Nissan catches fire, explodes

A Ford Motor Co. employee driving a Nissan saw his car explode after its liquid petroleum gas tank caught fire.

Manop Kaewmanee, 32, escaped injury in the Dec. 23 accident near Udomsak in Sattahip. The Nissan Cerena, however, was destroyed.

Firefighters arrived to find the car fully engulfed in flames and after 10 minutes of battling the blaze, the remaining fuel in the 50-liter tank exploded. No one was hurt.

Manop said he smelled smoke through the air conditioning while driving to Pattaya. He stopped the car, popped the hood and flames erupted.
