Land donated by Budhist Dean
Twenty Rai of land (8000 s.m. or about 8½ acres) valued at 30 million Baht has been donated to Pattaya City for the construction of a sports centre. The donation was made by the dean of the Naklua Buddhist community, Phra Kroo Vimalphan Nanohachato, through the offices of the Ministry of Education, Department of Physical Education.
The gift from this revered and generous monk, who is now stationed at the Wat Chong Lom, is of 20 Rai of prime land located about 800 metres from Sukhumvit Highway, Soi Roong Maikheed, Moo 2, Tambon Nonplalai, Banglamung. The sports centre and stadium is to provide facilities, now lacking in Pattaya, for international sports events for the benefit of both residents and visitors.
Plans are in preparation for the stadium, which will commence wihtin a month with the construction of a football field. Eight running tracks are included in the project.
Estimates for the cost of the project range from 20 to 30 million Baht, 4,180,000 Baht of which has already been donated by the Department of Education. Pattaya City has budgeted a further 3 million Baht. It is not yet known from where the rest of the required finance will be obtained.
Completion is aimed for by the end of 1994.
