Fugitive Russian arrested in Pattaya

Chonburi Immigration Police arrested a wanted Russian, an alleged mafia figure, who had been hiding out in Pattaya for two years.

 

Andrey Atamas, 41, was captured June 17 while shopping for construction materials at a Sukhumvit road supply store. He was carrying a Czech passport under the name Andrej Kristof.

Immigration police conferred with the Czech embassy and determined the passport had been reported lost and altered to use a fake name.

Atamas confessed that he bought the passport for 70,000 baht and used it to enter the country.

Atamas is wanted in Russia for his role in a large-scale robbery by an organized-crime gang. He’d been in Pattaya about two years and had set up a real estate company called Glory International.
