Three of four Pattaya communities that applied for national funding of local anti-drug programs have been rejected for not meeting program requirements.
The Office of the National Control Board denied applications from the Nongprue Moo 3, Nong Tabak and Nong Pangkhae for tens of thousands in baht in funding after the anti-drug office determined none of the local councils had sent any local residents to train others. The ONCB requires communities obtaining funds through the Mother of the Nation Fund to dispatch at least 300 local residents to other neighborhoods to teach anti-drug efforts.
The Kophai Community, which is doing this, received 100,000 baht to continue its efforts.
Frustrated members of the three rejected communities met with the chairman of the Pattaya-Sriracha Anti-Narcotics Cooperation Group March 18 to determine what they needed to receive the cash. Chairman Wirat Joyjinda also heads the Kophai Community and provided examples.
HM Queen Sirikit’s Mother of the Nation Fund was established to rid neighborhoods of drugs and create a network of trainers to spread knowledge about successful anti-drug campaigns to other affected communities.
“The Kophai Community’s committee will be working to increase the amount of people teaching in the other communities and I need to say that we will walk together to dispose of drugs in the area.”
Pattaya City Hall is supporting the Mother of the Nature Fund by allocating 65 million baht to support programs in its 41 neighborhoods.
