Restaurants did better than flower shops on Father’s Day, with jasmine garlands not selling well due to short supplies and higher prices.

Weerapa Romsakul, owner of Phothong Sangkaphan, which sells religious supplies and flowers, said sales of the flower garlands this year was similar to last year, which was not good.

The leading factor is the high price, due to a shortage of flowers during the winter. Prices jumped from the normal 60-150 baht to 120-250 baht, she said.

Weerapa said she only put up prices to cover her higher costs and delivered a quality product, as she didn’t want to take advantage of customers, most of whom are regulars.

The biggest winner on Father’s Day appeared to be restaurants, which were packed with families taking Dad out for a holiday meal.
