An 80-year-old woman was missing after fire destroyed a luxury teak home in Sattahip.
More than 100 firefighters and emergency-rescue workers from Khet Udomsak, Sattahip municipality and Kledkaew used four fire engines to fight the blaze in Nattada Village Aug. 27 to prevent the wooden-house fire from spreading to neighboring homes. Damage was estimated at five million baht.
During and after the fire, Sawang Boriboon Rojthummasathan searched for a paralyzed grandmother believed to be in the house. Her body was not found, leading authorities to believe relatives may have moved her out prior to the blaze.
Firefighters use four fire engines to fight the blaze to prevent the wooden-house fire from spreading to neighboring homes.
The house’s owner, Phannichanan Ta-ngam, 48, was in Switzerland with her husband at the time. Neighbor Pitchayanat Janthaleela said the owner rarely visits the house and had hired a maid to care for the elderly woman and 10 dogs.
Arson is not suspected as the cause of the fire. Phannichanan said she heard a loud bang similar to a firecracker, then saw the flames. Investigators suspect a wiring problem is to blame.
