His Majesty the King extended his best wishes to all Thais on the New Year’s Day and thanked them for their continuous support for him.
In his New Year message on Saturday 31 December 2016, His Majesty said the country suffered a great loss in October 2016 with the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the incident that brought great sorrow to all Thais. He, however, felt overwhelmed, having seen people of all genders and ages keep showing up in full force to pay their respects to the royal remains.
He thanked the people for their cooperation in making royal funeral activities smooth. This, he said, reflected the good heart, gratitude, generosity and patriotism in all Thais. Terming these traits as national characteristics, His Majesty the King said he believed that Thai people would be able to overcome all problems with the quality mentioned and also capabilities that were inferior to no one in any country.
He urged that in the New Year, Thais keep showing the national characteristics, judge the situation around them without prejudice and pursue the ideals and philosophy of the late king. (NNT)
