An overly hot sauna is being blamed for a fire that heavily damaged the Fairtex Sportsclub in Pattaya.
Eight engines responded to the Jan. 24 blaze, which had fully enveloped the second floor of the North Road gym. One lane of the busy street was shut down and firefighters needed about 30 minutes to control the blaze. No one was injured.
Banglamung District Chief Naris Niramaiwong said the exact cause of the blaze was unknown, but it was suspected the sauna on the second floor was running too hot.
Fairtex manager Prem Busarakamwong wouldn’t confirm the thermostat was set improperly, saying the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
