A hotel staffer was fired and the management apologized to a Pattaya woman who was literally kicked out of a South Pattaya inn, which was caught on video and circulated widely on the Internet.
Suwith Wanichprapao, general manager of the Sunshine hotels group and manager of its Sun Exclusive Hotel publicly apologized to a woman identified only as Mon, who was refused entry to the hotel to meet her Bangladeshi friend, allegedly for not having a Thai identification card.
Suwith Wanichprapao, general manager of the Sunshine hotels group and manager of its Sun Exclusive Hotel, apologizes to Mon after a video of hotel security guard kicking her (inset) was widely circulated on the web.
In an incident captured on a 43-second video, a hotel security guard bars her from the door and the two can be heard arguing, with the woman saying the Thai driver’s license she showed was legal ID. The staffer spoke rudely to her in words conveying his disdain for her choice of occupation.
When the woman refused to back down, the guard unleashed a couple of kicks at her and tried to push her down the stairs.
Suwith said the hotel quickly contacted the victim and explained that she had been correct, but justified the staffer’s actions by saying criminals with dodgy identification have tried previously to enter the hotel. However, he said, the employee had not handled the incident properly and has subsequently been fired.
From now on, he said, the hotel will put more focus on proper recruitment screening and will not let the situation happen again.
Mon accepted the apology and said she hoped that hotels would never treat any women in such an abusive manner again.
