A hotel cashier was injured after being shot in an apparently random drive-by shooting.

Somchai Singhthorn, 35, suffered a through-and-through gunshot to the lower abdomen after midnight Oct. 2 on Soi Nernplabwan in East Pattaya. He was hospitalized in serious condition at Banglamung Hospital.

Somchai, who works at the Beverly Plaza Hotel, told police he was driving to work from his home, and after turning onto Soi Nernplabwan two youths on a motorbike pulled alongside. The pillion passenger pulled out a pistol and fired. He said he rode to a nearby 7-Eleven store to call for help.

The victim said he did not know the gunmen or why they’d want to shoot him. Police said it appeared to be random, but had to wait for Somchai’s condition to improve to interview him further.
