A frightened monk called the Sawang Rojthummasathan Foundation after midnight Aug. 17 after the snake stole into his dormitory. Weighing more than 60kg, the giant reptile was looking for his next meal. The monk didn’t want to be it.
It took about four hours, but animal-rescue workers managed to round up this 6-meter-long python that went hunting in a Sattahip temple, scaring a monk out of his wat.
The python didn’t go easily, however. After first wrapping itself around a tree branch 10 meters in the air, it fought off attempts by tree-climbing rescuers to capture it. The snake slid over to a thorny bamboo patch and officers had to climb a rubber tree, reach across and cut off a branch and snare the snake before it could escape again.
Temple monks said snakes are drawn to the grounds because so many nearby residents abandon their dogs and cats there, attracting pythons which love feline for breakfast and canine for dinner.
Rescuers took the python far from people and set it free.
