Ill driver crashes on Jomtien promenade

An unwell elderly driver was hospitalized after crashing his car on the Jomtien Beach promenade.

Bancha Pinkaew, 60, was having trouble breathing when he was pulled from his car near the Loong Savai restaurant Sept. 30. He was transported to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for treatment.

Authorities said the driver of this car likely was suffering a respiratory problem, which caused his crash.

Witness Saranya Pongniyakul, a restaurant employee, said the car came speeding out of a small side street and roared over the beachfront footpath. It ended up perched on rocks overlooking a bluff near the water.

No one was injured.

Authorities said the driver was obviously ill and suffering some sort of respiratory problem, which likely caused his crash.
