An illegal Chinese tour guide and an Udon Thani woman have been arrested for cheating and abandoning a group of 38 mainland tourists in Naklua.
Li Jinkun, 28, and Nantakarn Kanhasin, 34, were taken into custody June 20 by Pattaya Tourist Police who came to the rescue of the tourists a day earlier at the Arcon Hotel Wong Amat on Naklua Soi 16.
The duo, employees of New Tai Wan Guo Travel Co., reportedly confessed that they abandoned the budget tourists – who had paid just 9,800 baht for a two-day trip to Bangkok and Pattaya – because they did not agree to pay additional hidden charges to visit an entertainment complex.
After touring Bangkok, the two confessed to leaving the tourists in the hotel lobby without providing their room keys. Another New Tai Wan Guo guide later arrived to get the tourists settled.
Li was found to be an illegal guide with no registration or work permit and was booked for labor and immigration offenses. Nantakarn was charged with allowing an illegal guide to work under her supervision.
Very upset at first, the Chinese group said they were satisfied with the police and travel agency response to their problem.
