Police arrested a Thai couple for allegedly scamming 20 people out of more than 1.6 million baht by fraudulently promising them high-paying jobs in New Zealand.

Suriya Singchart, 49, and Panarada Aiyasupa, 54, were charged with fraud by charging 20 Khon Kaen residents 80,000-100,000 baht for passports, visas, health checks and job placement in New Zealand for jobs allegedly paying 100,000 baht a month.

There never were any jobs and the couple had fled once victims went to police in 2018.

Similarly, Chonburi Immigration Police arrested Russian Natalia Nikiforova, 37, for illegally running a job broker company in Pattaya. An arrest warrant had been issued in 2016, but officers never went to her Nesta Asia Group Co. in Naklua until July 2, charging her with working in an occupation restricted to Thai nationals.
